What test types are used for the sexual health tests?

Urine sample for a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). This test type detects nucleic acid specific to the tested infectious agent. 

• Chlamydia
• Gonorrhea
• Trichomoniasis

Blood sample for an immunoassay. This test type relies on very specific antigen - antibody reactions to detect either a part of the infectious agent (antigen) or molecules produced by the immune system in response the infectious agent (antibodies). 

• Hepatitis B - detects the hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) and antibodies to the hepatitis B core (Anti-Hbc)
• Hepatitis C - detects antibodies the the hepatitis C virus (Anti-HCV)
• HIV - detects the HIV p24 antigen and antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2
• Syphilis - detects antibodies to syphilis (treponemal test)
